Becoming Yourself

“You don’t need anybody to tell you who you are or what you are. You are what you are”

- John Lennon

What gets you up in the morning? What lies within your heart that sparks passion? What force within you takes that first step down that dark staircase? What power holds the very essence of your ship together, when the storms of adversity are at its peak? Perhaps, it is faith. Faith that tomorrow will bring better days. Faith, that there is more to that staircase. Faith, that even when we are at our darkest days, the light within us will still shine once again. Faith is to believe in what you do not see with your eyes, but feel with your heart. If we wish to be all that we can be, we must have faith in ourselves. It is ultimately up to each and every one of us as individuals, to make the difference. But, you cannot make the difference, until you believe you can. It is written in Mark 9:23, “...all things are possible to him that believeth.” Yet, to believe in yourself, you must be yourself. Judy Garland once said, “Always be a first rate version of yourself, and not a second rate version of someone else.” Aspire to create trends, rather than follow them. In a world full of copies and knock offs, be an original. Choose to hold yourself to a higher standard, and refuse all that is less than you want and deserve. Let the birds fly, and let the fish swim. Let the poets write, the preachers preach, and the dreamers dream. Never be afraid of being who are. Never compromise your dreams to make anyone else content. You have one life to live, and only one shot to become all you can become. Stay true to what your heart desires, and stay true to yourself. When the winds begin to blow, and the skies begin to hail, seek great wisdom as you go, and set the better sail.
